Lawn Grass Care After Monsoon: How to Restore & Revive Your Lawn in October–November
How to Restore Your Lawn After the Monsoon Season in North India
The monsoon season (July–September) is a blessing for lawn establishment but can leave behind serious issues: waterlogged patches, moss and algae growth, fungal disease, soil compaction from heavy rainfall, and bare patches where grass drowned in standing water.
October and November are the ideal window to restore, fertilize, and strengthen your lawn before winter. Here's the complete post-monsoon care routine from Elite Green Grass Farm:
Step 1: Assess Damage and Identify Problem Areas
Walk your entire lawn after the last significant rainfall has passed. Look for:
- Bare or thinned-out patches — where grass drowned or washed away
- Waterlogged depressions — low-lying areas that held standing water
- Yellowing or black patches — signs of fungal root rot
- Green slimy coating — moss or algae from excessive moisture
Step 2: Aerate Compacted Soil
Heavy monsoon rainfall compacts soil, suffocating grass roots. Use a garden fork to aerate the lawn by pushing it 4–6 inches deep at 6-inch intervals across the entire lawn. This opens air pockets and dramatically improves root recovery speed.
Step 3: Remove Moss and Apply Copper Sulphate
Rake out moss and algae growth manually. Then apply a diluted copper sulphate solution (5g per liter of water) as a spray over affected areas to kill remaining spores. Avoid treating on windy days.
Step 4: Patch Bare Areas with Fresh Sod
October is one of the best months to lay fresh grass sod for patching. The weather is moderate, soil is moist from residual monsoon groundwater, and grass roots will establish before the first winter chill. Order fresh patch sod from Elite Green Grass Farm — we deliver across all NCR areas.
Step 5: Post-Monsoon Fertilization
After monsoon, apply a balanced NPK fertilizer (10:10:10 ratio) to replenish nutrients leached out by heavy rains. Follow with a potassium-rich feed (0:0:50 or potash) 3 weeks later to harden grass cells against the coming winter cold.
Step 6: Reduce Watering Frequency
As October temperatures drop and the dry season begins, reduce watering from daily to every 2–3 days. Overwatering in October is a common cause of fungal disease in post-monsoon lawns.
